Cottle had taken her Liam.

He'd been gentle, had held her hand and told her: I'm so sorry, Caprica.

Then he put her to sleep for a while. When she woke up, she was empty and sore.

She screamed and fought. Finally they tied her down. A while later, they put her back to sleep.

When she woke again, her Gaius was there, warm eyes full of compassion.

"Don't cry, dear," he told her, squeezing her hand, as if he were really there.

"Don't cry. We'll get our baby, and we'll take her to the Opera House together, and all will be well again."

Title: Cleaning Crew
Author: grey_sw
Characters: Simon
Rating: G
Spoilers: 4x09, "The Hub"
Prompt: Empty

After the Hub was destroyed, the bodies on the Resurrection Ship began to rot. The Ones, Fours, and Fives voted to dispose of them. The Simons and Dorals spent three days helping the Centurions airlock the bodies, while the Cavils drained and mopped each tub.

At first, Simon was uncomfortable with it. The bodies were limp and heavy in his arms; hundreds of brothers who didn't live, who would not live. Fours, like him, but dead, forever.

By the time they were finished, he didn't care anymore. He couldn't.

They left the Resurrection Ship as-is, endless rows of empty tubs.

Wonderful. I'm always so very intrigued by your cylon POV's. I'm particularly enthralled by how you write Simon.

Thank you! I <3 Cylons.

Simon is tough to write because he hasn't got much characterization. From what little we saw of him in "The Farm" and "Six Of One", he strikes me as the sort of guy who is basically quiet and cerebral, and maybe even a little regretful from time to time, yet is willing to do horrible things to further the cause. Unlike Cavil, who's always in charge of the horrible things, and Doral, who's always like "sweet! We get to do horrible things today!", Simon strikes me as more like "hmm, looks like I have horrible things penciled in for noon, one-thirty, and three o'clock. Oh, well. Maybe I can feed the lobotomized Raiders afterward."

I imagine Simon might spend a lot of time looking after the other two, also. Nothing says "high-maintenance friends" quite like being stuck on a Basestar with Doral and Cavil. :P

I hope we'll see more of Simon before the end. At the very least, he still needs to get a first/last name...!

I quite agree, especially with the slight remorse and care yet still practical manner we see from him in "The Farm".

LOL! XD That would be wonderful to see/read *hinthint*.

The actor who plays Simon actually popped-up recently in the latest CSI episode. I was so excited squeeing "Simon!" that I didn't even catch if the doctor's real name was mentioned. XD

I've got a couple day-in-the-life Basestar stories/crackfics with those three in the works. That said, I'm feeling rather once-bitten-twice-shy after No Exit -- judging by recent experience, if I write too much Simon, the show will probably rewrite him into an [overemotional] [firefighter] who is secretly behind everything [Seelix] and [Socinus] have ever done, motivated mainly by an entirely hitherto-unhinted-at [love] of [baked spaghetti]. :P

As useful as the "scraps of paper in a hat/Mad Libs" method of characterization may be for the show, it drives me up the wall as a writer.

Interesting! I liked the second one especially.

And I liked your characterization of Simon in your reply to [livejournal.com profile] obsessive_a101. :D I'll remember that, should I ever write Simon. :)

I've got Doral coming up. I'll see if I can make Simon fit in somewhere. :)

Me, too! I'm really hoping he'll be back before the end. Fortunately, I think the odds are pretty good... :P

Simon! \o/ Thanks so much for giving him some personality and emotion; while I love him as a gleeful mad scientist, there's got to be more to him than just scalpels and surgery. At the same time I think that's an important part of his character; the Sixes and Eights are obsessed with human emotions (and babies), Simon's obsessed with human bodies *poke*
