BSG: Fresh Start, Acceptable Losses

Title: Fresh Start
Author: grey_sw
Characters: Baltar
Rating: G
Spoilers: 4x20, "Daybreak, Part II"
Prompt: Goodbyes

It's going to be harder than he'd thought. Almost impossible, really. They have no seed, no tools, no horses, not even a cat to chase the rats away. They'll be lucky if they manage a half-decent garden, much less a farm.

Still, Gaius Baltar is happy. Caprica is with him; they will live beneath the sun and stars, and soon they'll start working on a home. They probably won't starve to death, anyway.

He sighs. He feels strangely new, as though there's another Gaius, somewhere, who never went on that mission. But all that's left to say to him is: goodbye.

Title: Acceptable Losses
Author: grey_sw
Characters: Leoben, Ellen
Rating: G
Spoilers: 4x20, "Daybreak, Part II"
Prompt: Goodbyes

The Colonials and Cylons have taken to building rock cairns for the dead, like a Memorial Wall which spreads across the surface of their new planet.

Ellen watches a couple of Twos as they carry their rocks, stacking them in four piles along the edge of the hardscrabble settlement.

"Who are they for?" she asks.

"D'Anna," the first Two says. "And Simon, Cavil, and Doral."

"But... they tried to kill you!" Ellen says.

"We killed them in return. They're still our brothers. We miss them."

She frowns. "I suppose so."

"They're your sons, too. Won't you help us?"

Ellen shakes her head, and turns away.

Leoben! I was really disappointed that he wasn't in the finale at all. It would've been nice to see some of his feelings about what happened. I think he'd definitely mourn the the other cylons; thanks for giving him a moment like this (even if Ellen had to rain on his parade).

Glad you liked it!

heh, you know the final season is off the rails when Baltar is the rambling mystic, and Leoben engineers a box to help Roslin talk to the mutineers. :P

Nice stories. Baltar finally came full circle and Leoben seems the perfect person to remember the fallen.

Something not make sense in S4? Blame it on Leoben's magic box!

This line strikes me as very Gaius, and I LOVE it.

Great second drabble too. I love the idea of the Cylons still needing to mourn the cost of their civil war, and Ellen not being quite ready for that. And the Leobens are the only male model left now! It's a major adjustment.

Of course Leoben will mourn for them when no one else will. I hadn't thought of it before, but it makes sense- the only beings in the universe left who are sensitive and loving (and, in this case, insanity probably factors in there somewhere) enough to remember the 'bad' Cylons are the Twos.

Heh, yeah. Post-series Leoben probably goes swimming in the stream that feeds the ocean that feeds the stream with Cavil, Simon, and Doral every Saturday, and with Napoleon on alternating weekends. :P

Lovely - I like the idea of Gaius saying to the self who wouldn't have gone on the mission - the one who'd never have been able to enjoy this "Earth" the way it was. And I really like that.

LOVE the second one because it just makes so much sense that it would be the Leobens to do this... who'd be willing to do this. They are so... gentle in their own way. *sighs* Ah, and Ellen - turning away - in that flippant denial of her creations. Hmm...

Yeah. I think Ellen kinda washed her hands of the things she had made, so to speak. It's really sad. And I agree that the Twos would never have done so; they do have an understanding way about them.

Thanks for the kind comments!
